Short Hills & Millburn NJ homes and real estate
Settled in the early 17th Century, Millburn gets its name from the several mills of those times. Significant development began in 1877 with Short Hills by Samuel Hartshorn, who planned the community of Short Hills as a conservationist would. Rather than laying out a grid of road, he followed the terrain to make beautiful winding roads graced by many very old, large trees. The estate homes that were built still exist today, protected by the Millburn-Short Hills Historical Society and their proud homeowners. Though few properties have much more than a half acre, there is a sense of space and appreciation of beautiful homes, grounds and community.
Short Hills-Millburn is an affluent community where the average home price is well over $1,000,000.
Neighborhoods like The Glenwood Section, which is closest to the Short Hills train station where service via the Midtown Direct train to NY makes this a top location for commuters also features the Glenwood Elementary School, Cora Hartshorn Arboretum, and homes ranging from the $500's to about $2 million.
Bordering the Glenwood Section is Old Short Hills - this is where the original Hartshorn homes can still be found. These are very special properties, often with an acre or more, with stately proportions and the most architectural significance in Short Hills. These estates often trade in the $5 million range and up.
All over both the Hartshorn and Deerfield sections of Short Hills, modest homes are being replaced by new construction, which is currently very much in demand. A luxurious 5,000 square foot home on about a half acre can be had for about $2.5 million and up. Builders are, of course, including all the latest luxury features you would expect and demand in a property such as this.
